Graduation Award Plaques in Cameroon: What to Order

What to order for convocation, how to word it, how many you need and how early to start.

Graduation Award Plaques in Cameroon: What to Order

A graduation award plaque in Cameroon is almost always one of three things: a small desk award at 40 000 XAF, a round indoor acrylic plaque at 50 cm for 60 000 XAF, or a larger plaque at 60 000 to 80 000 XAF for a head-table or school-wall piece. Those are our published prices at NestX in Bamenda. This post tells you which size to order, how to word it, how many to get, and how early to start so you are not chasing a workshop two days before convocation.

Start with who is receiving it

Every good graduation order begins with an honest count of recipients, not with a design. The design follows.

That last line matters. Families and class committees often come in asking for eighty plaques and leave with keyholders, because eighty plaques is a budget nobody has. If the piece is for everybody, it should be small and personal. If it is for one person on a stage, it should be a plaque. Read customised keyholders for weddings and events if the whole class is the audience.

Wording that works

Keep it short. A plaque is read from two metres away by somebody standing up, not studied like a certificate. Four lines is comfortable. Six is the limit before the text has to shrink and the plaque starts looking like a page.

Best graduating student

  • Award of Excellence / Presented to [FULL NAME] / Best Graduating Student, Department of [DEPARTMENT] / Class of 2026
  • [SCHOOL NAME] / Valedictorian Award / [FULL NAME] / Class of 2026

Subject or departmental prize

  • Prize for Academic Excellence / [SUBJECT] / [FULL NAME] / [SCHOOL], Class of 2026
  • In recognition of outstanding performance in [SUBJECT] / [FULL NAME] / Presented by [SCHOOL], 2026

Guest of honour, chairman, sponsor

  • In appreciation / [TITLE AND FULL NAME] / Guest of Honour, [EVENT NAME] / [SCHOOL], 2026
  • With gratitude for your support of [SCHOOL] / Presented to [TITLE AND FULL NAME] / Graduation Ceremony 2026

Family gift to a graduate

  • Congratulations [FIRST NAME] / [DEGREE OR PROGRAMME] / [UNIVERSITY], 2026 / From your family
  • We are proud of you / [FULL NAME] / [DEGREE], [UNIVERSITY] / 2026

Write titles exactly as the person uses them. Dr, Barrister, Chief, Mrs, Rev. Getting a title wrong on a plaque that will hang in an office for twenty years is worse than getting nothing at all. If you are unsure, ask the person's secretary before you send us the list.

Names are where orders go wrong

Nearly every remake we do on a graduation batch is a spelling. Not a design fault, not a material fault. A name.

  • Send the names typed, in one message or one file. Not a photo of a handwritten list. Not read out over a phone call.
  • Send them in the exact capitalisation and order you want them engraved.
  • Mark which name is the surname if the order is not obvious. We do not guess.
  • Check the list twice before you send it, then check the proof we send back. Once we cut, the material is gone.

We send a proof of every plaque before anything is cut. Approving a proof with a typo in it is on you, so read it slowly, and have somebody else read it too.

Sizes and what they look like on a stage

A 50 cm round acrylic plaque is large. Held up on a stage it reads from the back of a hall, and it photographs well. A small plaque or desk award is a personal object, made to sit on a desk or a shelf at home. Neither is better. They do different jobs.

If the plaque will be handed over and photographed, go bigger. If it will be lived with, go smaller and spend the difference on better wording and a cleaner layout. We cut up to 1 m by 0.9 m in one piece, so nothing at graduation scale is a problem.

Lead times and the December rush

Convocation season is the busiest stretch of our year. Every school, department and family wants their plaques in the same two weeks, and the workshop is one workshop.

Order sizeOrder this far before the ceremony
One to three plaquesThree weeks
Four to fifteen plaquesFive weeks
More than fifteen, or plaques plus keyholdersEight weeks
Anything going to Douala, Yaounde or BafoussamAdd one week for transport

Those figures assume the names are final. They are not final in most schools until late, so here is the trick: send us the design, the layout and the material decision early, and send the names when they are confirmed. Locking everything except the text turns a five-week job into a few days of engraving. Committees that do this get their plaques on time. Committees that wait for the full list before starting do not.

Artwork, files and school crests

We work from PDF, AI, SVG, DXF and CDR. Most schools have a crest somewhere as a proper file, usually with whoever printed their letterheads. Find that file. A crest pulled off a Facebook page is low resolution, and a low-resolution crest engraved at 50 cm looks exactly like what it is.

If the only crest that exists is on paper, we can redraw it, but that is design time and it belongs at the start of the eight weeks, not at the end.

Paying and getting them to the ceremony

MTN MoMo and Orange Money. A deposit starts the job, because we buy material cut to your names and it cannot be resold. Balance on completion, after we have sent you photographs of the finished set.

For ceremonies outside Bamenda we pack and send by transport agency to Bafoussam, Douala or Yaounde. Plaques travel well when packed properly. Tell us the destination when you order, not the week of the event, and give the transport a week of slack. Rainy season road delays are real and no amount of good packing fixes a late bus.

See finished plaques in the gallery, compare materials in crystal, acrylic or wood, and find the published figures on the price page and the services page.

Send your recipient count and your draft wording on WhatsApp and we will lay it out and quote in 24 hours. Everything we make is listed on the services page.

Questions people ask

How much is a graduation award plaque?

A small plaque or desk award is 40 000 XAF. A round indoor acrylic plaque at 50 cm is 60 000 XAF, and larger sizes are 60 000 to 80 000 XAF. Anything outside those is quoted in 24 hours.

How far ahead should I order for the December convocation season?

Three weeks for one to three plaques, five weeks for up to fifteen, eight weeks for larger batches. Add a week if it is travelling to Douala, Yaounde or Bafoussam. Convocation is our busiest period and everybody wants the same fortnight.

The names are not confirmed yet. Can I still start?

Yes, and you should. Lock the design, the size and the material now and send the names when the list is final. Engraving confirmed text on a prepared design takes days, not weeks.

What wording goes on a best graduating student plaque?

Four lines is comfortable. Award title, full name, department or subject, then school and year. For example: Award of Excellence / Presented to [full name] / Best Graduating Student, Department of [department] / Class of 2026.

We need eighty pieces for the whole class. Is that possible?

Possible, but plaques at that quantity is a budget very few committees have. For a whole class, engraved keyholders are the sensible product. Plaques are for the few people who walk onto the stage.

Can you deliver to the ceremony outside Bamenda?

Yes, by transport agency to Bafoussam, Douala, Yaounde and elsewhere. Tell us the destination when you order and leave a week of slack for road delays, especially in the rainy season.

Tell us what you need.

A photo, a sketch, a file, or a sentence. We reply within 24 hours.
