Church Anniversary and Harvest Plaques: Wording and Timing
Real wording for anniversary, appreciation, long service and harvest plaques, and how many weeks before your date to order.

A church anniversary plaque is usually a round indoor acrylic plaque at 50 cm for 60 000 XAF, or a small plaque at 40 000 XAF when there are several people to thank. Those are our published prices at NestX in Bamenda. The harder part is not the price. It is the wording, the list of names, and starting early enough that the plaques are in the church before the service rather than the week after it. This post covers all three.
The four plaques churches actually order
| Plaque | Who receives it | Usual size and price |
|---|---|---|
| Anniversary commemoration | Nobody. It hangs in the church or the hall | Round acrylic, 50 cm, 60 000 XAF, or larger 60 000 - 80 000 XAF |
| Appreciation | A pastor, a donor, a chairman of the planning committee | Round acrylic, 50 cm, 60 000 XAF |
| Long service | Choir masters, elders, catechists, deacons, caretakers | Small plaque or desk award, 40 000 XAF each |
| Harvest thanksgiving | Groups, families or individuals who carried the harvest | Small plaque, 40 000 XAF, or keyholders for a large group |
Most committees start by asking for one thing and end up ordering two: one large plaque for the building and a set of small ones for people. That combination works well, and it is cheaper than making everything large.
Wording, with real examples
A plaque is read standing up, from about two metres, by somebody who has just been handed it in front of a congregation. Keep it to four or five lines. Long paragraphs shrink the text until nobody in the third row can read it.
Anniversary commemoration, for the wall
- [CHURCH NAME] / 25th Anniversary / 2001 - 2026 / To God be the glory
- [CHURCH NAME] / Golden Jubilee / Fifty years of God's faithfulness / [YEAR]
- In commemoration of the [NUMBER] Anniversary of [CHURCH NAME] / Dedicated by [PRESIDING MINISTER] / [DATE]
Appreciation
- In appreciation / Presented to [TITLE AND FULL NAME] / For your dedication to [CHURCH NAME] / [ANNIVERSARY] Anniversary, [YEAR]
- [CHURCH NAME] honours / [TITLE AND FULL NAME] / Chairman, Anniversary Planning Committee / With gratitude, [YEAR]
- In grateful recognition of your generous support / [TITLE AND FULL NAME] / [CHURCH NAME], [YEAR]
Long service
- Award for Long and Faithful Service / [TITLE AND FULL NAME] / [NUMBER] years as [ROLE] / [CHURCH NAME], [YEAR]
- In recognition of [NUMBER] years of faithful service / [TITLE AND FULL NAME] / Choir Master, [CHURCH NAME]
- Presented to [TITLE AND FULL NAME] / Elder, [CHURCH NAME] / For service rendered from [YEAR] to [YEAR]
Harvest thanksgiving
- Harvest Thanksgiving [YEAR] / [CHURCH NAME] / Presented to [NAME OR GROUP] / In appreciation of your support
- [CHURCH NAME] Harvest and Bazaar [YEAR] / Highest Contributor / [FULL NAME]
- In appreciation of the [GROUP NAME] / For your labour towards Harvest [YEAR] / [CHURCH NAME]
One warning about numbers. Write the years out and check them. A plaque that says 2001 - 2026 and claims a 25th anniversary needs both halves to agree, and we have seen committees argue about it after the plaque was already on the wall. Settle the founding year in a meeting, not in the workshop.
Titles and names
Church orders go wrong on titles more often than on anything else. Rev, Rev Dr, Pastor, Evangelist, Elder, Deacon, Deaconess, Catechist, Chief, Mami, Papa. These are not decoration. People will notice immediately if theirs is wrong or missing.
- Send the list typed, one name per line, with the exact title in front of it.
- Send it in the capitalisation you want engraved.
- Have the secretary or the parish clerk check the list before it comes to us, not after.
- Read the proof we send back slowly. Once acrylic is cut and engraved, a typo means a new piece.
We proof every plaque before cutting. That proof is your last chance and it is free. Use it.
Timing, in weeks not months
Do not count backwards from a month. Count backwards from your date.
| Order | Send it to us this far before your service |
|---|---|
| One commemoration plaque | Four weeks |
| A few appreciation plaques | Six weeks |
| Ten or more long service plaques | Eight weeks |
| Plaques plus keyholders for the congregation | Eight to ten weeks |
| Anything travelling to another town | Add one week |
Two local realities push those numbers out. The first is that anniversary and harvest services cluster. Churches in the same town tend to hold theirs within weeks of each other, so the workshop gets every order at once and nobody can be first. The second is rain. If your service falls in the wet part of the year and the plaques travel by transport agency, the bus is the risk, not the engraving.
Here is the practical move, the same one that works for graduation plaques. Fix the design, the size and the material now. Send the names when the committee has finally agreed them. A prepared layout with confirmed text is a short job. A fresh job with a confirmed list is not.
Materials for a church plaque
For an indoor plaque, acrylic and wood both work and the choice is taste. Acrylic reads as modern and clean, engraves frosted white, and photographs well under the lights in a hall. Wood is warm and traditional, engraves brown, and suits an older building or a long service award that will hang in someone's parlour.
Outdoors is a different question entirely. A dedication plaque on an outside wall, a foundation stone marker, a name board at the gate: those live in our rain, and wood outdoors here fails within a season or two. The full comparison is in acrylic, PVC or wood. If it is going outside, acrylic.
Artwork and church crests
We work from PDF, AI, SVG, DXF and CDR. Most churches have a crest or a logo as a proper file with whoever prints their programmes or their banners. Ask them for the original file before you send us a photograph of a letterhead. We cut up to 1 m by 0.9 m in one piece, so nothing at church-plaque scale is a problem.
Paying and delivery
MTN MoMo and Orange Money. A deposit to start, because material is cut to your names and cannot be resold, and the balance when you have seen photographs of the finished set. Committees usually pay the deposit from the harvest account and the balance after the offering, which is fine as long as the deposit comes early enough to start the work.
Outside Bamenda we pack and send by transport agency to Bafoussam, Douala, Yaounde and elsewhere. Tell us the destination when you order. Give the road a week of slack.
Finished church work is in the gallery, material choices are set out in crystal, acrylic or wood, and the published figures are on the price page.
Send your draft wording and the number of recipients on WhatsApp and we will lay it out and quote in 24 hours. Everything we make is listed on the services page.
Questions people ask
How much is a church anniversary plaque?
A round indoor acrylic plaque at 50 cm is 60 000 XAF, and larger sizes are 60 000 to 80 000 XAF. A small plaque or desk award, which is what most long service and appreciation awards use, is 40 000 XAF. Anything else is quoted in 24 hours.
How far ahead should we order?
Count back from your service date: four weeks for one commemoration plaque, six weeks for a few appreciation plaques, eight weeks for ten or more. Add a week if it is travelling to another town.
The committee has not agreed the names yet. What do we do?
Send the design, the size and the material now and hold the names back. Engraving agreed text onto a prepared layout is a short job. Starting from nothing once the list is final is not.
What wording works for a long service award?
Keep it to four lines. For example: Award for Long and Faithful Service / [title and full name] / [number] years as [role] / [church name], [year]. Get the title exactly right, because people notice.
Should a dedication plaque outside the church be wood or acrylic?
Acrylic. Wood outdoors in the North West needs sealing on the face, the edges and every screw hole, plus resealing every year or two, and that maintenance never happens. Indoors, wood is a fine choice.
Can you make matching keyholders for the congregation?
Yes, and it is the sensible way to give everybody something without paying plaque prices. Keyholders are quoted in 24 hours because the price depends on quantity, material and engraving time.
